Check Engine Light – Fremont, CA
Your Fremont Check Engine Light Specialists! You’ve probably had your vehicle’s check engine light turn on at some point while you were driving. While this dashboard light is very common, we find that many people don’t really understand what its purpose is! We’re here to shed some light on it (pun kind of intended).
What does my check engine light do?
Your car’s check engine light is a warning light that is signaling you that something in your vehicle isn’t working correctly. The tricky part is it doesn’t tell you, the driver, exactly what the problem is! Your check engine light is connected to your automobile’s computer, which reads and coordinates several of your vehicle’s systems and functions. When the onboard computer notices a problem arising, it illuminates the check engine light, warning you that it’s time to take your car to a professional auto repair shop for help. Once you bring your car in, your trusted auto repair mechanic will be able to connect a special system to your vehicle’s computer that reads the trouble codes, pinpointing the car issue that has arisen.

What does it mean if my check engine light is flashing?
Never drive if your check engine light is flashing! Some people will drive around with their check engine light on and be OK for a short amount of time, but if your check engine light starts flashing you should pull off the road in a safe area and turn off your engine immediately. A flashing check engine light is the most severe warning, and it means something is misfiring in your engine. Any extra driving you do can cause major damage to your vehicle that requires extensive and expensive repairs!
You really shouldn’t drive too much with your check engine light on at all, as many times this dashboard warning light is alerting you that something is about to be wrong. If you take your car to your trusted auto repair shop right away they can simply fix the problem before it becomes a major repair. It’s always better – and cheaper – to get it checked out sooner rather than later.
